I use this term "slacker" as more of a tongue-in-cheek comment. With our family life I'd say we qualify for any term BUT slacker...however perhaps I deserve it when it comes the few recent blog updates.
I have no real reason for my lack of posts except we've been on survival mode for quite a few months and I really just ran out of steam at the end of the day when I usually write a post.
Since August Andy has gone through weeks at a time of being up 3-5 hours at night. It's truly heartbreaking not being able to do anything to assist your child that you seen in distress that's unable to sleep. We're big believers inthe natural approach and I feel like we'd tried everything and I was on the brink of going to our family doctor to request a prescription.
Sometimes from a moment of desperation comes a stroke of genius! Okay, I may have my saying slightly messed up here but you get my drift. Andy has been taking probiotics for over a year and a half. They have been life changing (honestly) and he's been on maintenance with them. When we first started going to see our Naturopath Andy was diagnosed with Candida and we treated it quite agressively. What I had forgotten is that it doesn't really go away but can easily flare up bringing with it all kinds of symptoms.
Symptoms like sleep disruption, giddiness and constipation. How I did not connect these symptoms to Andy's behaviour I cannot explain except for exhaustion on my part. The exciting news is that we finally did make the connection...and Andy has been in incredible shape for almost three weeks now.
Here are some of the noticeable changes that many have commented on...aside from John and myself:
- Andy is sleeping through the night...and peacefully.
- Andy is calm, minimal stimming throughout the entire day.
- Andy is focussed and able to give his full attention and effort to new activities.
- Andy is willing to try several new foods a week, even if it's just a bite!
- ANDY is trying to TALK constantly
The Fall months were so long and felt at times like they were neverending on a downwards spiral. The exciting part is we finally feel as a family that we're back in control of our lives. It's a peace and joy that we haven't felt since the summer. Hopefully my blogging inspiration will work it's way back into my life and I'll be posting more regularly again.
