A few people mentioned this segment to me tonight and although I missed it on 60 minutes I managed to track it down online. Please take a moment and watch, it's only 13 minutes long.
We started using an iPad with Andy in July and cannot say enough about it. It has allowed Andy to express himself and show off his knowledge in a speed and manner that he has yet to be able to do prior to the iPad. Andy is still not speaking consistently or in all environments, the iPad gives him a voice and a connection to those around him that he may otherwise find difficult.
We are continuing to explore the iPad's abilities and continue to try out new apps. It is not the only answer for Autism but it is an amazing tool that I wish all affected with this diagnosis had access to.
